A proposed retail project called Northgate North that Touchstone Development plans to build across the street from Northgate Mall, between 5th and 3rd avenues NE, has apparently gotten approval, with conditions, from the City Council, reports Neal Curtin, a member of a neighborhood group called Citizens for a Liveable Northgate.
According to Curtin, some of the key conditions that the City is requiring of the developer include the following: residents and businesses likely to be impacted from the construction should be given an opportunity to participate in preparing the plan of how trucks will access the site and how pedestrian connections can be maintained dcuring construciton. Truck routes, as far as possible, shall avoid all residential areas. Construction is limited to non-holiday weekdays, between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Third Avenue NE and NE 112th must be maintained as "quiet streets" and "light and noise should be screened as much as possible."
The Northgate North project is expected to house a Target store as one of its anchor tenants.
In other Northgate area news, Safeway's plans to expand its Pinehurst store at 12318 15th Ave. NE, was apparently rejected by the City. The project would have resulted in the demolition of three single-family homes located on that block.
